Longtime Orick opponent read prepared remarks calling Orick 'a carcass of failed motels' and arguing the development brings too much asphalt, noise, light and people to the edge of Redwood National Park.

General manager explained the ownership change and 14-year delay, said the plan will be scaled back to a third or two-thirds of its size, and hoped to break ground on phase one this year.

A 30-year Orick area resident who guides park visitors spoke in support, saying the community loses tourism money because visitors have nowhere to stay nearby.
